Shy-Drager Syndrome: The decline of the Nervous System
Shy - Drager syndrome ( multiple system atrophy , MSA , Idiopathic orthostatic hypotension ) is a disease in which the various parts of the nervous system decline ( degeneration ) .
CAUSE
The cause is unknown .
SYMPTOMS
This disease causes the dysfunction and destruction of the autonomic nervous system that regulates blood pressure , heart rate , secretion of glands and eye convergence :
- If the patient is standing , blood pressure drops dramatically
- The amount of sweat , tears and saliva decreases
- Vision is reduced
- Difficult urination
- Constipation
- Movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease .
Setbacks in the cerebellum ( little brain ) sometimes causes incoordination .
Diagnosis
The diagnosis is based on symptoms.
TREATMENT
Equal treatment with Parkinson defect , coupled with fludrocortisone medication to help increase the blood pressure .
Patients who are not taking fludrocortisone advisable to add salt in the diet and drinking plenty of fluids .
Difficult urination can be treated with medication or catheter placement .
To overcome constipation given laxatives or add foods rich in fiber
